How do I get my toddler to sleep better?

Eat.Play.Repeat.  Why does something as simple as that feel like it can wear you down?! Parenting is challenging. I just don’t know how some of these super moms with more than 2 kids can do it! 

Nobody ever told me that my infant was going to be tongue tied, that he would have trouble latching proper – therefore we turned to formula and pumping. Plus! Dealing with the not so lovely colic and formula that wouldn’t work for his sensitive tummy.

My first child was the trial and error phase, sorry, I’m a bit simple and blunt. I remember dealing with his inability to sleep through the night until he was 2 years old. My 2nd child, now that I was a bit more experienced, is feeling like a breeze.

Tired Toddler

My biggest tip is just soo simple and I hope this helps new moms get a slight tip for their toddler babies sleeping habits. Let’s keep it simple and straight to the point!

  1. Lots of Play Time
  2. Full Belly
  3. Warm Shower

I’ll admit that sometimes, my work day is overwhelming, I get tired, making dinner and finding some time to workout is just mentally draining. Yet, there’s no excuse to spending time with my boys and allowing them to run free. Even with just some simple time to play outside with the neighbors, getting to ride their bike through the driveway or apartment complex might be the little breather you and they may need.

Dust off the bicycles and scooters, Spring is here and summer creeping it’s way into the year. These are the easiest ways to explain how I get my boys to bed in a timely manner.

  1. Let them Play. Homework comes first, but lots of play time is included into their day. Cousins come over for dinner, friends play outside and we just let them be free. Let the last bits of the sunset hit their little faces.
  2. Feed them soon after and let their little bellies settle down. A good healthy meal will soon get them full and sleepy.
  3.  A warm shower/bath will quickly relax them and that bedtime story or just laying next to them with the lights out will quickly get them down for bed.

I’ve heard that some families are starting to use some of the therapeutic oils. My family has never used them, therefore I can’t really say it works, but I’ve heard from some of my friends that they’ve had success – so if you’re open, give it a try.

You may struggle and they might fight their sleep, but it will get easier. Just fight through it and you will soon have them on a sleep pattern that will fit your families lifestyle. Best of luck to all of my Momma Friiennddzz!
